Effective September 14, 2026, Coursera is discontinued.

If you currently have a Coursera license through Sonoma County Library, please be advised that your access will discontinue September 14, 2026.

Coursera was previously supported through funding provided by the California State Library, which allowed Sonoma County Library to make the service available to patrons at a sustainable cost.  When the California State Library discontinued its financial support for Coursera, the full cost of maintaining the service shifted to local libraries.  After reviewing the cost and available resources, the Library determined that continuing Coursera at this time is not financially sustainable.

This is strictly a budget and resource-allocation decision, not a reflection of the quality of Coursera or the value patrons have found in the service.

The Library remains fully committed to providing free learning, workforce development, technology, and educational resources and will continue evaluating services that provide strong value and broad community benefit.
