Sonoma County Wine Library
The Wine Library Associates of Sonoma County
The Wine Library Associates of Sonoma County are the support
group of the Sonoma County Wine Library. Over the years The Associates have
raised and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in helping the wine library.
And they have a blast doing it.
The Wine Library Associates website is at:
www.SonomaOdyssey.org
The Associates put on several events each year:
The Annual Meeting - The Annual Meeting
usually takes place in February at a winery or events center. The Annual
Meeting combines a report to members on what the Associates and the Wine
Library have done over the year with a seminar usually focused on a particular
varietal or wine topic and a tasting to illustrate that varietal or topic,
paired with appropriate foods. Previous years have featured Terroir, Zinfandel,
Pinot Noir, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Sparklers, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc,
Meritage, and the list goes on. for the topic, dates and ticket prices, contact
the library.
Appellation Tours - Open
only to Associates members, the Appellation Tours take the first 35 Associate
members to respond
to the invitaion on an afternoon bus tour to a particular Appellation's
vineyards, wineries and sometimes vintners' homes, places that usually
do not admit
the public. For $35 you get lunch, tastings and a chance to meet the
wine makers and the grape growers of a particular Sonoma County Appellation.
Past Appellation Tours have included Dry Creek, Green Valley, Alexander
Valley,
Carneros, Russian River, and the list goes on. There is usually one
Appellation Tour in the Spring and one in the Fall.
Fireside Chats -
Often a wine author or celebrity, or topic of interest built around wine.
We have
had Joel Peterson of Ravenswood talk about his
passion for Zinfandel, hosting it with a tasting at Ravenswood; Thomas
Pinney, author of The History of Wine in America, give a slide
lecture on the history of wine in Southern California, at Buena Vista;
Gerald Asher,
Wine Editor for Gourmet Magazine on "Wine and Literature";
Charles Sullivan, author of A Companion to California Wine,
on California Wine history; Bob Thompson, Author of The Wine Atlas of California,
on "Collecting Wine and Building a Wine Cellar"; and the list
goes on. These evening events feature a talk, wine and food, and ticket
price
varies, with members getting a substantial discount.
Sonoma Odyssey -
A great gathering at Saralee's Vineyard/Richard's Grove for wine,
food, auctions, dancing, music and fun. Both a chance to
have a great time, visit an exclusive estate not open to the public,
and support the wine library. Past years have featured Cajun music
and jazz.
There is always great food and wine and music.
