Library Fines and Fees
Schedule of Fines and Costs
As a new borrower you can have a library card just by asking at the check-out desk and showing I.D. and proof of your current address. There is no charge for the initial card or for borrowing Sonoma County Library materials.
Fines or costs are charged in the following circumstances:
REPLACEMENT CARD COST
$1.00 - replacement cost for lost card. Because you are responsible for all materials checked out with your card, be sure to notify the library immediately if your card is ever lost or stolen.
CARD RENEWAL
Library cards expire every three years. In order to renew your
card you must pay all your outstanding fines and fees.
OVERDUE FINES
ADULT MATERIALS:
30¢ - per item per day fine
$12.00 - maximum fine per item
CHILDREN'S MATERIALS:
10¢ - per item per day fine
$2.00 - maximum fine per item
LOST OR DESTROYED MATERIALS
Patrons holding items overdue 42 days will be charged the LOST FEE.

At the librarian's discretion, a patron may replace a lost item with an exact duplicate of title and edition. (A $10.00 PROCESSING FEE WILL BE CHARGED.)
DAMAGED MATERIALS
$3.50 each, minimum.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN MATERIALS
FEES CHARGED BY LOANING LIBRARIES WILL BE PASSED ON TO PATRON.
The maximum debt allowed is $5.00. Patrons who reach or exceed this amount will be prohibited from borrowing materials until the fine is paid or sufficiently reduced.
THERE IS A $25.00
CHARGE ON ALL RETURNED CHECKS.
THERE IS A $10.00 CHARGE ON ANY LONG OVERDUE ACCOUNT REFERRED TO
OUR COLLECTION SERVICE.
