About fines and fees

As a new borrower you can have a library card just by asking at the check-out desk and showing I.D. and proof of your current address. There is no charge for the initial card or for borrowing Sonoma County Library materials.

To make sure that library materials are freely available to everyone, fees are charged for late or lost items. You may now pay by credit card online or in person, as well as cash or check.

Late fees for overdue materials are 20 cents per day per item, with a maximum of $5.

The fee to replace lost items is the cost to replace them.

If you owe the library more than $10, you cannot check out additional materials.

If you owe more than $100 in late charges or fees, we send you a billing notice. If the account is not cleared within 30 days, we forward it to a collection service.

For more detail, see the Library Policy on Fines and Fees.
