Cancelling requests
Click the My Account tab. Log in (unless
you are already logged in). Click on Holds & Requests,
click the box next to any of the unfilled hold requests, and then click the Cancel Request
button at the bottom.
You can only cancel an unfilled
request. Once the request has been filled (it is waiting for you ready
to be picked up) you cannot cancel it.
Renewals
Click the My Account tab and log in, as above (unless you
are already logged in).
Click on Items Out to see the list of items you currently
have checked out. Click in the box to the left of each item you want
to renew, or click in the box to the top left of the entire list if
you want to renew all the items. Then click the Renew button.
You may renew materials twice. After the end of the second renewal period, the item must be returned to the library.
Troubleshooting / Questions
Why can't I renew an item?
You will not be able to renew an item if:
- You already renewed it twice, or
- Someone else has placed a hold on it, or
- You have over $10.00 in library fines, or
- The call number and location information indicates it is a "walk-in" copy. Walk-in copies cannot be requested or renewed. A few copies of each new fiction and non-fiction book may be assigned as walk-in copies, so that some new and bestselling books will almost always be available when you visit the library, no matter how long the request queue is for the newest titles.
To pay library fines, go to the circulation desk at your library.
I renewed this item twice, but it's still due in only three weeks.
Do not try to renew an item multiple times in the same day to add more time to the check-out period. This does not work. Each time you renew an item, it becomes due 21 days (7 days for most DVDs) from the date you renew it -- not from the original due date. If you renew an item twice in the same day, it doesn't renew for double the time -- it simply takes you to the maximum number of renewals.
Why can't I place a request on an item?
You will not be able to reserve an item if:
- You already have the maximum number of requests on other items, or
- The call number and location information indicates "No holds permitted."
Reference books and "walk-in" copies of other books are exempt from being requested. A few copies of each new fiction and non-fiction book may be assigned as walk-in copies, so that some new and bestselling books will almost always be available when you visit the library, no matter how long the request queue is for the newest titles. If you want one of these books and it is checked in at a library branch, the best way to get it is to go to the library right away. Details of our policy on Requests and Holds
Why can't I log into my account at all?
If your library card number and PIN won't get you into the system,
- Your card may have expired, or
- We may have a different PIN for you in our records.
Please go to the circulation desk at your library to have your card renewed
or your PIN number updated. You can also request a change of PIN using this account update request form.
Library cards expire every two years. Details of our policy on Library Cards and Accounts
